The rhyme first appeared in 1782. However the term and famous reference 'Queen of Hearts can be found in Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The Queen of Hearts playing cards can be traced back to France in 1650.
But in more recent history the term Queen of Hearts was used by Diana during her famous interview with Martin Bashir. She stated her preference to the title of the Queen of Hearts to that of the Queen of England and this is my starting point for this image.
Here are some images I have found re Queen of Hearts.
Diana. Her eyes will be the key to this image.
Some experiments with the playing card idea in mind.
Think cols red/blue or black/red depending on what cols available in workshop
.
My final image ready for lino cut workshop later on this week with Nick Morley. See his images below. There are more at http://linocutboy.blogspot.co.uk/
A great workshop. Had to simplify design for lino and could only choose one. Nick suggested Queen of Hearts and this is the outcome.
